Month Old baby senses and reflexes- a month old baby’s overall
sensory abilities.
The month old baby’s senses are not very well developed; yet one can
notice certain things in its behavior which are remarkable. A very
general tendency of month old babies is to stare at objects; they seldom
reach for it. The best viewing distance of new born and one month old
babies is 12 feet. Beyond this distance they seldom perceive any object
and hence do not respond to them at all. Any object or design perceived
by the month old baby would have to be high definition since the high
definition objects create a clear cut image in their eye. The nearer
objects make an impression on the baby’s senses and gradually it
develops senses which are capable of perceiving distant objects. Month
old babies like to look at different faces and the changes in the facial
expression force it to respond to the changes. The month old babies try
and imitate the facial expressions which are being displayed in front of
it and it tires to imitate it accordingly. It shies away from bright
light but the reflexes are not very fast. Strong light is not
recommended for month old babies since strong light can highly affect
the baby’s skin. It is advisable to keep month old babies away from
strong light backgrounds. The audio perceptions of a month old baby
are quite advanced and it does not like loud sounds and thuds. It
generally reacts in a negative manner to loud noise and vibrations of
any kind. It reacts positively to any soothing music or a pleasant voice
since it has the ability to react to smooth changes of voice. The month
old baby may start crying after hearing a loud thud or any unpleasant
noise. It is necessary to keep the baby in an environment which would be
free of loud noises.
 The reflexes are moderately active in case the
baby is gripped. The baby tries to turn to its side when it has been
gripped from a particular side. When its breathing is stopped it would
make every effort to get back its ability to breathe. Breathing is one
of the most important and crucial activities of the baby and when its
ability to breathe is stopped then it react to it in a very impulsive
manner. The month old babies are comfortable with musical notes or
other pleasant noises in their surroundings. Abrupt changes of
temperature and noise levels distract them and hey even might find the
changes unbearable. A baby would surely cry if it is brought into an
area where the temperature levels are variable. The sensitive skin of
month old babies cannot bear abrupt temperature variations. Hence it is
advisable to keep month old babies away from any particular place which
is prone to abrupt temperature variations. Month old babies can
develop dust and other smoke allergies if it is exposed to such things.
Under any circumstances a baby should be kept away from an environment
which is filled up with smoke and dust. Dust allergy is common and even
month old babies have the tendency to develop such problems. Month old
baby’s sensory abilities entirely depend on the environment to which it
has been subjected. However a month old baby cannot distinguish certain
colors and the entire world of colors develop gradually. The senses are
not very well developed but the basic sensory abilities are present
right from the birth period and hence one cannot expect a month old baby
to respond to every stimulus. Overall the baby is just competent enough
to respond to certain things and later stages of development would make
it into a very complex being; a being which would be able to rule the
planet.
